Sailing Vava'u

At Sailing Safaris, we pride ourselves on the personal touch, tailor-making your sailing experience to suit you. Our company and our staff have been chartering in Tonga longer than anyone else so no-one knows Vava'u better than us. Our team includes NZ Coastguard Boatmasters, an RYA Yachtmaster and an NZ Commercial LaunchMaster with more than 60 years combined sailing experience and 40 years chartering in Vava'u. If that's not enough qualifications, we run the Vava'u Yacht Club and are Port Captains for the NZ Island Cruising Association.

Bareboat/skippered charters If you're looking to sail in Tonga, look no further. Our bareboat charters start from NZD$270/night (3 night min) on an excellent budget sailing boat, Damn, see attached page. If you're looking for something bigger, prices start at NZD$695 (2005 prices) for a 331 Beneteau, which can sleep up to 4. The full fleet ranges from 27ft to 49ft monohulls & 42-49 ft catamarans. We can also provide Tonga skippers, guides and cooks to make your holiday that little bit more relaxing or to give you some local experience or culture. The Tongans are warm and friendly people who delight in showing you their islands and making your holiday special.

For that added bit of pampering, or for those without sailing experience, we also offer two unique fully crewed charters. Let your crew take the hard work out of it leaving you to do as much or as little as you choose. Both yachst can also offer whalewatchign as part of your sailing package.

Melinda is a tradionally rigged gaff ketch which offers a sailing holiday in Vava'u in traditional style. Impetuous provides the added option of cruising throughout the Tongan islands and even Fiji. Check the individual boat pages for more information.

Learn-to Sail Adventures. Never tried it, well nows the time to start. Damn is the perfect boat for learners being fast but easy to manage. And Vava'u is the perfect environment to learn with nice steady winds, sunny days, calm seas, and lots of safe anchorages

Give it a go with a 'Try Sailing' day for USD$190 for the boat with experienced skipper/instructor. With all the basic theory and plenty of hands-on experience, its a great way to learn a new sport as well as a great day out.

For those with bigger plans, how about a 5 day learn-to-sail course.
